Ellen Godwin, born Ellen Rochlin on December 3, 1926, in Yonkers, New York, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in Springfield, Virginia. She lived a full life, marked by her unwavering kindness, infectious sense of humor, and a thoughtful listener.
Ellen graduated from Syracuse University in 1949, after which she dedicated herself to a career that reflected her passion for helping others. She served as an assistant to the esteemed cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead and later worked as a health counselor, where she provided guidance and support to many. Her remarkable contributions in these roles truly exemplified her commitment to her community.
Ellen was the beloved mother of Eric, Kurt and Craig and cherished their presence greatly. Throughout her life, she imparted wisdom and love, nurturing both her family and those who were fortunate to know her.
She is predeceased by her son, Kurt Godwin.
Ellen Godwin will be remembered as a beacon of light in the lives of those she touched. Her legacy of kindness, humor, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
