Susan "Copp" Charlton

Susan Charlton (Copp) 76, of Syracuse, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2025, surrounded by Eric, her devoted husband of 50 years, and her four daughters. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Frederic and Eleanor Copp (Pusey) and raised in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, with her four siblings: Joy Copp (d.), Karen Copp (d.), Peter (Nancy) Copp, and Linda (Bruce) Albright.

While studying at Boston University, Susan first encountered a barefoot, long-haired Eric when they were both picked up by the same driver while hitchhiking. After getting married, they moved to Syracuse where she earned her master's degree in English Literature from Syracuse University. Together they had four beloved daughters: Catherine (Sean), Julie (Brian), Linda (Jesse), and Christine (Matthew). She taught English at Faith Heritage School, retiring in 2008, and was a faithful and active member of the Syracuse Reformed Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years.

To know Susan is to know how much she delighted in life. Despite her years of enduring chronic illness, she spent her days steadfastly pursuing Goodness, Truth, and Beauty and pointing others to Him, who is the Source of it all.

Besides her family and her Lord, her chief delights included her menagerie of animals, writing poetry, creating a beautiful home, "mommy sweaters", ginger tea, antiques, gardening, political podcasts, incandescent lightbulbs, making her family laugh, and her many adventures up on the hill.

She is deeply loved and missed by Eric, her "Little Women", and her eighteen grandchildren: Joshua (Rachael), Shelby, Eli, Grace, Henry, Calvin, Wesley, Ada, Charles, Susan, Jeremiah, Zola, Esther, Justice, Solomon, Cameron, Helen and Mara.

A funeral service will be held at Faith Heritage School, 3740 Midland Ave., Syracuse, New York, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm, with reception to follow immediately after the service. Private burial at Onondaga Valley Cemetery will precede the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's memory may be made to Faith Heritage School or your local church.
