Ellen Jordan Bunch Jones, 86, of Marion, peacefully departed this life early Monday, February 23, 2026 at UNC Health Blue Ridge.
She was born in Beaufort County, North Carolina on May 24, 1939 to the late Richard Bunch and Elizabeth Jordan Bunch.
Ellen held several jobs over the years, but she was most well known for her career at the Western Steer where she made many friends with customers and co-workers alike. A longtime member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church, Ellen was well-respected amongst her fellow church members. She truly loved the Lord. Ellen’s kind and caring nature was very evident in the way that she sent cards to family and friends for all of life’s occasions. Her meaningful messages in each card showed her big heart.
In her free time, she enjoyed watching television. She looked forward to the Andy Griffith Show, westerns such as Gunsmoke, and anything on the Hallmark Channel. Ellen loved Christmastime and the joy it brought to her life as well as sharing a meal with family. She cherished each member of her family and will be remembered as a devoted state trooper’s wife.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sulton Evon Jones, and her brothers, Richard Bunch, Jr., Edward Bunch, and Carroll Bunch.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Charles “Chuck” Jones (Pamela), Christopher Jones, Reginald “Reggie” Jones, and Mark Jones; five grandchildren, Lindsey Jones, Chloe Jones, Dylan Jones, Michael Jones, and Joshua Jones; a great-granddaughter, Delilah Jones; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
2170 Rutherford Rd, Marion, NC 28752
