Jefferson, SC – Ms. Ellen Middleton, aged 54, peacefully passed away on Thursday evening, March 13, 2025, at MUSC Health in Florence, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM, officiated by Pastor David Sanders and Brent Taylor. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family invites friends to a visitation on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the sanctuary of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Ellen was born on December 6, 1970, in Lancaster, SC, the daughter of Doris Hinson Middleton and the late Jerry Thomas Middleton. A 1989 graduate of McBee High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Education from Coker College and her Master's in Supervision and Administration from Grand Canyon University.
Her career in education began as a Mathematics and Science teacher with Chesterfield County School District at Central High School for one year. She then dedicated 18 years to Jefferson Elementary, while also coaching volleyball, basketball, and softball at Central High School. In 2013, Ellen transitioned to the role of Assistant Principal at Cheraw Primary, serving two years before becoming the Principal of Pageland Elementary in 2015. Most recently, in 2023, she was appointed Coordinator of Federal Programs for Chesterfield County School District.
A lifelong and devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Ellen was an integral part of the ministry and outreach programs of the church. She served in various capacities, including Youth Leader, church treasurer, VBS Director, and on the audio/visual team for both the church and Bridging the Gap Ministries. Ellen was passionate about coordinating youth mission trips throughout the years.
In her personal time, she enjoyed baking, scrapbooking, and attending high school sporting events. Ellen exemplified a spirit of service—not only to her faith and community but also to her family. She cherished her role as a devoted daughter, loving sister, proud aunt, great aunt, and friend to many, consistently expressing love and care for those she held dear.
Ellen is survived by her mother, Doris Hinson Middleton; her brother Bill (Bonnie) Middleton; her sisters Karen Middleton (Jonelle Streed) and Julia (Marty) McKenzie; her aunts and uncles June (Larry) Stroud, and Earl (JoAnn) Hinson; nephews Thomas (Catherine) Middleton and Zach (Maggie) Middleton; niece Cali Streed; and great nephews and great niece Manning, Andrew, Cameron, and Laura Middleton.
