Ellen C. Moquin, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, December 13, 2024 at McLaren Bay Region. The daughter of the late Alfred and Rita (Grandmaison) Newell, she was born on November 12, 1946 in Bay City. A caring woman her entire life, Ellen knew at a young age that she wanted to help and be of service to others, so she attended college and graduated from the Delta College School of Nursing. For 45 years she served her community as a Registered Nurse at Bay Osteopathic Hospital, McLaren Bay Region where she worked in ICU, CCU and Cardiac Care units, and then for eight years at the Bay County Medical Care Facility before retirement. Ellen was a longtime member of St. Jude Thaddeus Parish and spent many years as a community volunteer, especially with Special Olympics which was dear to her heart. She was an avid reader and enjoyed oil painting and traveling. Ellen was a kind, generous, good-hearted woman who will be dearly missed.
On July 23, 1979, Ellen was united in marriage to the love of her life, Gene Moquin, sharing the last 45 years always doing everything they could together. She is also survived by a son, Rocky (Cindy) Moquin; grandchildren, Melissa Moquin, Zachary Moquin and Brittany Moquin; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Kilynn, and Sadie; a sister-in-law, Sue Newell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ellen was also preceded in death by two children, Tammy Moquin and Joseph Moquin; her brother, Alfred Newell; and her infant sister, Star Newell.
A Memorial Service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Trahan Funeral Chapel with Fr. Dale Orlik presiding. The Rite of Committal will follow at Calvary Mausoleum. Ellen was a good friend in Florida for too short a time. Lou and I really missed her and Gene when they moved back to Michigan permanently. We had many fun times together - Tops, Mary Kay, Baseball games and eating out of course. She painted a serving tray for me with beautiful flowers. I use it every day. We were able to visit them at their home in 2020. Enjoy your new life with Jesus dear friend
