Ellen Debra Weingarten (nee Katz), 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024. Born on December 25, 1948, at Beth David Hospital in Manhattan to Sidney and Lillian Katz, Ellen was the oldest of three sisters. A lifelong New Yorker, Ellen resided in the South Bronx and Queens as a child. Ellen and her beloved husband of 55 years, Steven Weingarten, resided in Rego Park, Bayside, and New Hyde Park before moving to Carmel, New York.
Ellen is survived by her doting husband Steven; her cherished sons Seth (Karyn) and Daniel (Stephanie); her four treasured grandchildren Lillian, Blake, Samantha and Perry; her loving sisters Bonnie Kasner (Marc) and Iva Katz-Hesse (Jim); her stepbrother Glen Lazovick (Debbie); her special sisters-in-law Tina Begleiter and Judith Rothburd; and her much loved nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her father Sidney, her mother Lillian, and her stepfather Paul Lazovick.
In addition to being a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend, Ellen was an avid knitter, painter, theater and music enthusiast. Additionally, she was a lover of animals – notably, elephants and her grand-dogs. Ellen worked as a dental hygienist until her health prevented her from doing so. More than anything else, Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service for Ellen at Louis Suburban Jewish Chapels, 13-01 Broadway (Route 4 West), Fair Lawn, New Jersey, on Sunday, November 24th at 12:30 pm. The burial will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, New Jersey.
Donations in memory of Ellen may be made in her name to The Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org), an organization dear to her heart.
Shiva will be observed by the family on Monday, November 25th from 3 to 5 pm at Steven's home, Tuesday, November 26th from 6 to 8 pm at Seth and Karyn's home; and, Wednesday, November 27th from 4 to 6 pm at Seth and Karyn's home.
