Ellen White Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dolan Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - East Milton Square on Mar. 18, 2026.
Obituary for Ellen Anne White

Ellen Anne White died peacefully on March 16th, 2026. Predeceased by just five weeks by her devoted husband, Thomas Robert White, she is survived by her children Lisa White (married to Jeff Stoodt) of Milton, Massachusetts, Stuart White (married to Kerry Doyle White) of Raleigh North Carolina, Jabin White (married to Meg Moreland White) of Villanova, Pennsylvania, and Alex White (married to Marci Mendel White) of Athens, Georgia; her eight grandchildren Grady Stoodt, Arlo Stoodt, Lindsay White Kroll, Colin White, Grayson White, Kate White, Tommy White, and Harper White; and her great-grandchild, Hudson Kroll.

Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to Elizabeth Mann Livingstone and Roy Neil Livingstone, she was the younger sister of Roy Livingstone (deceased), Richard Livingstone (deceased), and William Livingstone. She graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School and the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration. In 1960, she married Thomas White, who was completing a residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. Subsequent residencies took the newlyweds to New Orleans and Manhattan, and then they settled down in St. Petersburg, Florida, where Ellen put her business administration education to use supporting Tom's pediatric practice.

After having four children, Ellen went back to school, graduating with a degree in English literature from Eckerd College. She sold real estate and worked at a bank before landing at the Tampa Review as an assistant editor, work she thoroughly enjoyed.

Ellen was a whirlwind of activity, constantly organizing vacations and parties, serving on boards and committees, and helping elderly neighbors. Catching the exercise bug from Tom, she was an avid tennis player, and she ran the New York City Marathon.

When Tom retired from pediatrics, the two returned to New England to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. They had more than 20 full and happy years at Fuller Village in Milton, Massachusetts, where Ellen, true to form, became president of the residents' association shortly after moving in. She was also active at First Parish Milton, serving on the caring committee and organizing a church cookbook.

Always quick to share her infectious laugh, Ellen will be remembered for her sense of humor. In the 1970s, when the Treasure Island Causeway sold stickers to residents instead of charging a toll each time, Ellen would yell out the name of a child riding in the car just before the gate went up. It took an embarrassing amount of time for the children to figure out the prank she was playing.

Even with advancing Alzheimer's Disease, Ellen retained her cheerful outlook and polite disposition. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, who were the center of her world. Her love and devotion to her husband of 65 years and to her family and friends will be forever cherished and remembered.

A joint Celebration of Life for Ellen and Tom will be held at First Parish Milton, 535 Canton Avenue, Milton on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Family and friends welcome.
