Elma Kaye Workman Jones

Hurricane, Utah – Elma Kaye Workman Jones, 93, passed away on November 14, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born October 20, 1931, in Hinckley, Utah to Karl Monroe and Ethel Arvilla Workman. She was the oldest of four daughters and was a great help to her parents. She loved growing up where she could ride her horse everywhere, she was even the Rodeo Queen.
Elma graduated from Hinckley Academy and moved to St. George to attend Dixie College. She met Wayne Jones one day when she went swimming, although he says they met at a dance at the water tank on the red hill above town. They were married on January 4, 1951, in the St. George Temple.
Their first home was her father-in-law's small workshop in St. George that is now part of the historical area. They then moved to Cedar City where they lived for 16 years making many new friends and memories. In 1970 they moved to LaVerkin where they made many more wonderful friends and memories.
When her children were all in school Elma went to work for the Hurricane School Lunchroom and later was promoted to manager in the new Hurricane High School Lunchroom. The friendships she made there were very precious to her – lunch ladies and student workers alike. They were well known for their hot rolls and the best cinnamon rolls in the county.
Elma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings – including Primary, Relief Society and Young Women. She and Wayne served four missions – Oklahoma, Camp Host for Jordan River Region Properties, West Virginia, and then for a second time to Camp Host for Jordan River Properties.
Elma is survived by her husband of nearly 74 years, Wayne Jones; her children: Karl, Linda (David) Holdaway, Brent, Annette (Vance) Bishop, David (Shanna) and Sue (Ron) Stratton; 24 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lawana (Jack) Davis; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Chamberlain and Rosa Jones; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger sisters: Paula Aagard and Cheryl.
The family would like to thank Advanced Home Health and Hospice and the staff at Beehive Homes in Hurricane for such caring help to the end.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LaVerkin Stake Center, 481 North Main Street, LaVerkin, Utah. A visitation will be held on Friday, prior to services, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the LaVerkin City Cemetery located at 580 North State Street.
