Sigurd, Utah - Elmer Hugh Chesnut, graduated from this life peacefully on Aug 10th, 2025 at his home in Sigurd.
Elmer was born on July 18th, 1955 to Emma Sal Smith and Ronald Hugh Chesnut in Richfield, Utah. He was raised in Salina here he grew grit, independence, and an enduring love for the outdoors. He graduated from North Sevier High School in 1973. He played football, wrestled, and in many school plays. He received a full ride scholarship to SUU for theater. He turned it down to start life and a family.
After graduation he married Debora Day Smith. From this union they had 4 children. They later divorced. In 2000 he married Dianne Luter of Harvey La. They later separated. Dad found his soulmate in 2014, Cherly Sitton. Dad and Cheryl loved to garden, fish and spend time together. They had many vacations and weekend trips.
Dad had many hardships and struggles in this life. Through it all he learned, and taught his children lessons in resilience, survival, and the beauty of the natural world, most of all to be authentic.
Through the smell of campfire, a thunderous laugh, the rasp of gravel under boots, these will echo in the memories of those who knew him.
Elmer is survived by, Debora Smith, Dianne Luter, and Cheryl Sitton. His children Nicole King, Joseph and Shawna Chesnut, Michael Chesnut, Desirae Chesnut (Kyle Albertson). He leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Brothers Todd (Lanita) Chesnut, Troy Mickelson. Sisters Misty Hart, Kathy Nielson, Rhonda (Gary) Hill, and Susan Chesnut. Many Nieces, Nephews, and some very close friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ronald Chesnut and Emma (Asa Lee) Tiffany. Brother, Ronald Clay Chesnut, brother-in-law, LaNeil Nielson Sr., and sisters, Rosanna (Bob) Tollefson, and Toni Darlene Barney.
In keeping with his rugged spirt, and love for the outdoors no formal services will be held.
His ashes will be spread at a later date, returning him to the wild spaces that shaped so much of who he was.
