Elmer worked for various companies during his young career. Elmer attended Delta College to become a machinist. He began his career with Carando's in Stockton before taking his beloved machinist job at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA.
Elmer loved to travel with Janet in their RV. They belonged to several RV groups including: the Cameo group, Elks Lodge #218 Tuleberg's, and Port City RV. He was also a member of the Italian Athletic Club and the Italian Garden Club. He also loved being involved with the Tea Party group and the Republican Party of San Joaquin County.
Elmer is survived by his wife and caregiver Janet Runyan Irion. Elmer fought a long battle with a disease called Interstitial Cystitis that was first diagnosed in 2000. He also battled NHL Waldenstrom since 2019. He is survived by his son, Stefen Irion and stepchildren Tracy Pengilly (Michael), Gary Balser (Miriam) and Trisha Zimmer (Tony). He was a proud grandpa to nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, two children Tommy and Jerilynn, and brothers Alvin and Irwin (Jerry) Irion. Alvin's wife, Joan and their daughters still live in Indiana who loved Uncle Elmer.
Special thanks to Hallway Health who cared and watched over Elmer since April 2024; especially to Rhonda Rice who cared for Elmer since day one. And to Leslie Powell who helped with all the arranging of the caregivers. Thank you also Hospice of U C Davis for their assistance the last few weeks.
RECEPTION
A reception for close friends and family will be held at the J Charles Irwin Reception Center at Cherokee Memorial in Lodi on December 6th at 1:00. Please reach out to Janet if you plan to attend. Thank you.

Elmer wasn´t just my brother-in-law - he was my brother in every way that matters. He had a heart bigger than anyone I´ve ever known and a spirit that made everyone feel welcome and loved. I´ll never forget his laughter, his kindness, or the way he could make even an ordinary day feel special.
I feel so grateful to have had him in my life. The memories we shared will stay with me always, and the love he gave will never fade. Rest peacefully, Elmer. You´ll always have a place in my heart.

I´m heartbroken over the loss of my Uncle Elmer. He was such a kind, generous, and genuine person - someone who always had a smile, a story, or a helping hand ready for anyone who needed it. I´ll always remember his warmth, his sense of humor, and the love he showed to everyone around him. It´s hard to imagine our family without him, but I´m grateful for the memories we shared and the example he set. He´ll be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
But I am Happy you are with Grandma, Grandpa, my Dad (your Brother) and uncle Jerry (your Brother) and most of all two of your children Tommy & Jerilynn, and lets not forget the rest of our Beautiful Family.
I love you with all my heart and soul.
