Elmer Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home - Appleton on Dec. 15, 2025.
With a heavy heart, we share that our loving husband and father Elmer John Powell passed away peacefully from a brief illness on December 11, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born September 8th, 1946, in Antigo, WI.

Elmer lived a true love story by being married to the love of his life, Mary, for 57 years. He enjoyed telling stories and making others laugh with his quick wit and sense of humor. In addition, Elmer enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing guitar. He was a Foreman for Wick Buildings for over 40 years mentoring others as he taught not only carpentry skills, but life skills.

Elmer will be greatly missed by his loving children: Matt (Debby) Powell and Gina (Brent) Van Gysel; his grandchildren: Reid, Grace, Karlee Van Gysel and Rylan Powell; his siblings: Sharon (Jerry) Buck, Shirley (Brian) Mikkelson, Luella (Gary) Larson, Dee, and Steve (Shawn) Powell; his brother/sisters-in-law: Tom (Laura) Radtke, Nancy (Keith) Skidmore, and many other family and friends. In addition to his parents Elmer and Helen, he is proceeded in death by his brother, Eugene "Eug"; brothers-in-law John Radtke, Bob McConnell, Rick Evans, Keith Skidmore.

We find comfort and strength knowing Elmer lived life to the fullest. Thank you for all the love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be Saturday December 20th, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pickerel, WI. Visitation will start at 9 a.m. with service at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to your local Veterans Affairs (VA) organization in Elmer's honor.
