WHALEY, Elmer Jr. – of Clio, age 91, died peacefully Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Westwood Inn Senior Living in Macomb. Funeral service will be held 1PM, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of service. Elmer was born February 26, 1932, in Flint, to the late Elmer and Christina (Fuller) Whaley, Sr. He attended Clio Community Schools where he received his high school diploma and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 during the Korean war. Elmer attended Mott Community College and the University of Michigan Flint where he received his bachelor's degree in accounting. He worked for General Motors until his retirement in 1987. On July 20, 1957, Elmer married the love of his life, Donna Boyd, and together they shared 49 years of marriage. They adopted two children: Mark & Sandra. Donna preceded him in death in 2006. They were founding members at Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio. Elmer was known to be a rather quiet, old fashioned, straight forward, no bullshit gentleman. He had strong opinions on politics and wasn't afraid to voice them to anyone who would listen. He was also a loving caretaker for his parents, Aunt & wife. Elmer enjoyed golfing; he was a founding member of Clio Country Club & served on the Board of Directors. He also enjoyed woodworking making many cherished heirlooms pieces for his grandson, Jacob. He was a U of M fan & enjoyed watching the wolverines play football. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. In his later years, he liked to read and complete puzzles on his Ipad and send them to his friend, Gail. He always enjoyed a good meal & bragged about only smoking three cigarettes a day. Above all, he was a loyal family man who provided for his family & put them first. He didn't often show his love, but loved hard and could always be counted on. He will be deeply missed by all especially those who he developed special relationships with at Westwood Inn Senior Living, and his compassionate hospice nurse, Barb.
Elmer is forever loved by his children: Sandra (Stephen) Kluk and Mark Whaley; Grandchildren: Jacob Kluk, Matthew Whaley, and Mark (Rachel) Whaley, Jr.; Great-Grandchildren: Madisyn, Layton, and Hudson; Nephew, Greg Severn of Texas. Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Whaley; Parents; Sister, Alice (Paul) Severn; Grandparents; Daughter-in-law, Linda Whaley.
