Elmer W. Wilson, Jr., 89, of Benton, departed this life on November 23, 2023, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He spent his life devoted to his family. Mr. Wilson was a Deacon of Old Ocoee Baptist Church and a long-time song leader.
He was a lifelong member of the Ocoee Lodge #212 and was a lifelong Christian.
Elmer was preceded in death by his mother, Allene Cummings, and father, Elmer W. Wilson, Sr.; his first wife, Barbara Wilson; sister, Opal Thornton; infant brothers, David Wilson, and Billy Wilson; and son-in-law, Carl Saylor.
Left to cherish the many memories include his wife of 18 years, Mary C. Wilson; four beloved daughters, Zenda Saylor, Cindy Wilson (W.C.) Watkins, Connie (Steve) Born, and Starla (Randy) Casteel; stepson, Bryan (Betty) Thomas; cherished grandchildren, Leslie Sampson, Steve (Sarah) Sampson, Jennifer (Matt) Ensley, Jordan (Jason) Provancal, Jessica (Matt) Vida, Candis (Josh) Cain, Kevin Born, Douglas (Ashton) Cogswell, and Emily Casteel; great-grandchildren, Hayley (Landon) Larabee, Harlee Davis, Trace Robertson, Courtney (Dylan) Daugherty, Atom Askew, Cali Cain, Lily Martin, Alilyana Cogswell, Charlie Martin, Carson Cain, Aubrey Cogswell, and Hannah Sampson. Several cherished step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive.
A Masonic Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, followed by a Celebration of Life service in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor David Qualls officiating. Interment will follow at Old Ocoee Cemetery, with Steve Sampson, Douglas Cogswell, Kevin Born, Josh Cain, Dustin Cain, and Smitty Smith serving as pallbearers.
Family and friends will gather from 12:00 (noon) to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
