Eloise Mitchell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Smith and Thomas Funeral Home - Chicago on Jan. 3, 2024.
Eloise Mitchell was born Eloise (Betts) in Aberdeen Mississippi on May 25th
1937 to Sammie Lee and Mary Anna Betts (both proceeded her in death). She was
the oldest of 8 children. After high school she moved to Chicago where she married
Charles Mitchell (who proceeded her in death in 1984). She loved children and
because of that love she worked for the Chicago Public Schools for 40 years until
she retired in 2007.
She expressed that she always wanted a large family. However it was the loss
of her daughter Patricia Ann at only 9 months of age in 1958 that made her wonder
why God would take the life of her precious child. Years later one of Jehovah's
Witnesses knocked on her door and she began to study the Bible with (Inez
Robinson) she taught her from the Bible about the hope of one day holding
her daughter in her arms again it was this hope of the resurrection that
moved her to dedicate her life to Jehovah and was baptized in October of
1969. Although her husband did not share her beliefs she was determined to
raise her other 6 children to learn about Jehovah to serve him and as a result
all of them dedicated their lives and were baptized at an early age.
Because of her zeal and love for people she spent many hours in the
preaching and teaching work by assisting others to the point of dedication
and baptism. Because of this love for the ministry she decided to become a full
time minister or pioneer in 1990 and continued in this work for the rest of
her life. She peacefully fell asleep in death on Sunday December 31st, 2023. We
look forward to seeing our beautiful mom soon healthy and happy with all of
her family and friends whom she dearly loved once again serving Jehovah
together.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children. Harold,
