Elroy Edward Hillmann died peacefully and thus joined his beloved wife Patricia in eternal glory on June 26th, 2025 at his home in Congress, AZ. He was 87 years old.
Elroy (Roy) was born in Hector, Minnesota on August 7, 1937 to Edward and Alice Hillmann. He grew up in a farming commnity and attended Farifax High School. He later enrolled in the University of Minnesota's School of Agriculture. It was here that he met his future wife Patricia (Tricia) Joanne Das. They were married on Sept 21, 1958 while he was on leave from his Naval Service on the USS Intrepid.
After completing his duty, Roy worked for Western Airlines in Minneapolis as a systems analyst. It wasn't long though, after a visit with his brother Williard's family in California, that he decided that a transfer to sunnier climes was in order. Tricia and he moved with their 3 children (Lisa,Kent, and Blake) to El Segundo, CA where indeed the orange trees bloomed, the sun shined, and there was no snow! Eventually Roy began a career selling insurance for Lutheran Mutual Life as he persued a business administration degree at Pepperdine University. Career moves then took him to Escondido, CA. Roy and Tricia had a love of new adventures and enjoyed the excitement of changing surroundings. In the course of over 65 years of marriage they lived in several different homes and states. Eventually that passion took them to San Luis Obispo where they owned and operated a cement pumping business. It was just before that move that their 4th child Kristin was born. It was there that Roy took up flying lessons with the dream of someday piloting his own small plane.
If asked, Roy would tell you that his faith and his family were the most important things in his life. He lived out those values. As a lifelong Lutheran, he served in many leadership roles in his church. After inheriting a small house in Congress, AZ, he and Tricia established Epiphany Lutheran Church on Nov 4, 2012. The last service to be held there as a Lutheran Church was for Tricia's funeral on August 10, 2024.
Roy leaves behind his children Lisa (John) Galli, Kent (Amber) Hillmann, Blake (Riza) Hillmann and Kristin (Matt) Threewit. His grandchildren include Christopher (Rachel), Michael, Gage, Elliott (Lindsey), Mason (Marisa), Tanner, Lily and Piper. Greatgrands are Joshua, Rebecca, Noah and baby James. Grandaughters Hailey, Anastacia, and Rene preceeded him to Heaven, as well as his beloved wife Patricia. He has most certainly now forgiven her for "bugging out on him" too soon!
Elroys funeral will be held on Thursday July 3rd at 10 am. Services will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church 450 W Rose Lane Wickenburg. AZ 85390.
Burial will follow at the Congress Cemetary with refreshments being served following the internment in the Annex of Redeemer Lutheran at 470 W Rose Ln.
