Elsie Clara Bechay

Elsie C. Bechay, age 96, transitioned peacefully surrounded by her three children on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Her wit, fun-loving spirit and beautiful smile will be missed by many, especially her family: Mary Bechay Miller (Jerry); Theresa Bechay; Michael Bechay (Carol) and her grandchildren, whom she adored: Nik, Zach and Annalise Neiberger, Quinn and Drew Bechay. Elsie was welcomed into the world by Italian immigrants in Hibbing, MN on March 28,1929. Throughout her young years, Elsie overcame many obstacles, two of which were parents who spoke little to no English and the Great Depression. However, she persevered with the help of her teachers to learn English and excel in her studies. This resulted in her acceptance to St. Scholastica College in Duluth, where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a registered nurse. She met her husband, Andy, at a dance hall in Chisholm, MN, where he performed as a drummer in a band. After a lengthy courtship, they married, moved to Minneapolis and began their family. Elsie secured a job at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in their Peds Unit. She was one of the initial nurses to open Minneapolis Children's where she remained a nurse until 1993. Elsie's life's purpose was nursing, and she excelled in it in every way. Early in her career, she developed a passion for the stock market. She viewed it as a game and remained an avid CNBC stock watcher into her final hours. Elsie's zest for life was contagious. She loved being around people and people loved being around her- regardless of age. Friendships lasted lifetimes. Her laugh was infectious, her smile bright, her love deep, and her convictions strong. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Andy; brother Emil; parents Fiorinda and Emilio. You are now a star in the sky, shining as brightly there as you did here.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 5, 2025, Visitation at 1:00pm Memorial Service at 2:00pm
