Elsie "Pat" Renkert, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on July 7, 1928, Elsie lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love.
She is survived by her beloved children: Karen (John) Westendorf, Donna (Mark) Angott, Gloria Renkert, Nancy (Norman) Colby, and Thomas (Becky) Renkert Jr. Elsie was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a doting great-grandmother to 11 great-grandchildren. Elsie's professional career was spent working for the Macomb Daily Newspaper, where she made significant contributions. She was an alumnus of East Detroit High School and demonstrated a lifelong commitment to her community through various roles, including serving as a Girl Scout leader.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life; she was a dedicated member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Eastpointe and an active participant in the Lutheran Fraternities of America #57. Elsie's community spirit shined through her involvement with the Eastpointe Kiwanis Club Food Pantry, where she generously provided food for until the age of 90.
In her later years, Elsie found joy in retirement by supporting her daughters as a teacher's aide at Trinity Lutheran School, continuing to shape young minds and provide support in the classroom.
Elsie's life was a testament to selflessness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 23000 Gratiot Ave, Eastpointe, MI. Instate from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am. A private burial will take place on Tuesday, however the family invites everyone to a luncheon that will be held at the church immediately following the service.
