Elsie Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home - Tomah on Jan. 6, 2026.
Elsie Helen Thompson, 100, of Tomah died peacefully, Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Tomah Healthcare Center.
She was born May 20, 1925, in Elroy, WI. She was a member of the Elroy High School Graduating Class of 1943. Elsie was united in marriage to her lifelong friend Philip A. Thompson on August 28, 1962, in Waukon, IA. Together they resided in the Tomah area for many years. Elsie had a great group of neighbors that helped her out a lot after Phil preceded her in death on June 16, 2010. Elsie and Phil enjoyed spending the fall and winter months traveling the country and spending time in Lakeland, Florida with their friends and golfing. During the summer months, many mornings, you could find Elsie and Phil at McDonalds enjoying coffee and the company of good friends, sharing stories and at times a couple of jokes. Together they owned and operated the Arrowhead Reality Company in Tomah. Elsie was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church, a former member of the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201 Ladie's Auxiliary, a charter member of the Medical Air Service, and of the Hiawatha Golf Club. She will always be remembered for her laugh and sense of humor.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (James) Burrows of Onalaska, 4 grandsons, Kurt (Wendy), Kraig (Kelly), Kris (Melissa) and Kelly (Angela) Burrows, 14 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 2 special nieces, Linda Halverson and Donna Johnson, and many additional special nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marla Rae, and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Jan 8, 2026, 12:00 Noon, at the First United Methodist Church, 1105 Butts Ave. Tomah. Pastor Fran Hewuse will officiate. Burial will be at the New Lisbon City Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church from 11:00 A.M until the time of the service. Online condolences may be sent to www.sonnenburgfamilyfh.com. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family.
