Elva "Sue" Shores

Mrs. Elva "Sue" Shores, age 81, of Rome, GA, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at home.

Mrs. Shores was born in Cedar Bluff, AL, on March 11, 1944, daughter of the late P.E. McCollum and the late Nobia Potts McCollum. She was also preceded in death by her husband of over 51 years, Jacky Paul Shores, Sr.; a son, Danny Shores; eight siblings, Harvey McCollum, Bill McCollum, Tommy McCollum, Norman McCollum, Glenn McCollum, David McCollum, Charmon Phillips, and Jean Johnson; and by her brother-in-law and his wife, Tommy and Marlene Shores.

Mrs. Shores was a graduate of West Rome High School, where she played basketball and trumpet in the school band. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, where she served for many years as secretary and bookkeeper and sang in the choir.

A true renaissance woman, Mrs. Shores had an amazing voice-which she loved using for God's glory-and was an incredibly talented seamstress. She was also proficient on the piano, trumpet, and organ, having played at Wax Baptist Church for many years. She loved visiting the mountains and was an avid reader who often visited the regional library to stock her personal collection. She especially enjoyed the Christmas season and had a very impressive Santa collection.

Mrs. Shores loved children, as shown through her years directing Vacation Bible School at Benedict Baptist Church in Cedartown and serving as a Scout leader. Above all, she loved her family-especially her grandson, Wesley-and her Lord Jesus Christ. She is now celebrating in His presence for eternity.

Survivors include her two children, Heather Shores and Scott Shores (Cara), both of Rome; a grandson, Wesley Shores (Baylee), of Broomfield, CO; her brother, Jack McCollum (Nancy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, in the chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks and the Rev. Joel Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Wax Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the service time on Friday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
