Elvira M. "Nena" Vigil

Elvira "Nena" M. Vigil, 89, of Port Isabel, TX passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
Nena came to live in Port Isabel with her sister, Juanita Mata. This is where she met the love of her life, Fernando Vigil. They were married for 56 years until his passing in 2014.
She worked at Bayside Net & Twine Company for numerous years until she went to work in retail for the Middleton's at the Jetties Restaurant Gift Shop and Sea Chest Gift Shop. From there she went to work at the Port Isabel Independent School District as a food server at Jr. High School until her retirement.
She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She loved working with her hands creating art and crafts. She was especially good at creative ideas, such as flower arrangements and wreaths. There was always something she created for every holiday occasion. Christmas was her favorite holiday. If you did not have the spirit of the season, you would certainly feel it upon visiting her home. She was always thinking outside the box. Another of her past times was her love of sewing. She would sew her girl's clothing. Tending to her flower garden was another of her passions.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking treats for them and making homemade flour tortillas with butter. She especially enjoyed all of her great grandchildren, which provided much joy to her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fernando Vigil; parents, Hipolito and Delfina Martinez; 5 brothers, Ascencion, Daniel, Domingo, Eugenio and Rogelio Martinez; 3 sister, Juanita Mata, Angelica Vela and Santos Prado.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Irene Martinez (Hector+), Diana Delgado (Danny), Belinda Vigil (Wil Zuniga), and loving sons, Joe Vigil (Dolores) and Rolando Vigil; brother Ruben Martinez (Mary+); 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandsons and 7 great granddaughters; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, TX. with cremation to follow in accordance with her wishes.
Honored to serve as pallbearers: Abel Woods, Joe Vigil, Dylan Perez, Alfonso Gutierrez, Francisco Mata, Alfredo Mata, Ernesto Mata, Armando Mata and David Isaac Garcia II.
