Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2026.
TUFTONBORO ---- Emile G. Poisson, 87, of Alberg Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia, New Hampshire, leaving behind a life marked by integrity, dedication, hard work, and a deep commitment to family and teaching.

Emile was born on June 6, 1938 in Sherbrooke, Canada, the son of Theodore and Blanche (Brulotte) Poisson.

He was commissioned in the NH Army National Guard and attended the NH Military Academy where he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant before completing his bachelor's degree in French and Spanish at Plymouth State College. He then pursued graduate studies at Middlebury College.

Emile devoted his career to teaching French and engaging in a variety of additional programs and educational roles. During his time at Holderness School, he founded the rock-climbing program within the school's Outing Club. After Holderness, he spent four years at Laconia High School. In 1982, Emile joined the faculty of New Hampton School where he was Chair of the Foreign Language Department and he directed the school's Safety, Outdoor and Freshmen Orientation Programs.

Emile served on many academic associations. He was a member of the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages from 1970 to 1991. He served as Treasurer of the American Association of Teachers of French from 1970 to 1973, and Chairman of the Foreign Language Conference of Independent Schools Association of Northern New England in 1975.

Emile was highly creative and a talented woodworker who also enjoyed leatherworking as a hobby. He and Ann converted a school bus into a camper and the family spent six summers traveling across New England. He took particular pride in designing/building the family's summer cottage and a retirement home.

Emile is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann (Stackpole) Poisson, his children, Arline, Douglas, Jennifer, and Everett (Michelle); grandchildren, Gunnar, Ansel, Sam, Skylar, Bella, his sister Diane, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Armand, Theodore, and sister Jeanette.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Belknap County Nursing Home for the exceptional care and compassion they provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home, Gift and Bequest Trust Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.
