Robert "Bob" J. Poisson, Sr., 89, of
North Attleboro, MA-formerly of Plainville, MA-passed away peacefully under hospice care at his home on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Rosemarie (Stanton) Poisson, with whom he shared 70 beautiful years of marriage, having wed on September 25, 1955.
Born in Newton, MA on February 28, 1936, Bob was the son of the late Hormidas G. Poisson and Elizabeth (Paradis) Poisson. He grew up in Newton and spent most of his life in Plainville, MA, where he and Rosemarie built their family and countless cherished memories.
In 1953, Bob proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force as an aircraft maintenance technician where his first duty station was at Otis Air Force Base, serving in the Air Defense Command, maintaining the F-94C interceptor jet. It was there he met his lifelong best friend, Bob Copley-and, while attending a USO dance, the love of his life, Rosemarie.
A member of IUOE Local 4 since February 1960, Bob worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry for many years before retiring and was a devoted communicant of St. Martha's Parish in Plainville.
Meticulous, inventive, and endlessly resourceful, Bob was a true craftsman-a modern-day MacGyver who could fix just about anything. Whether tinkering in his workshop or lending a hand to a neighbor, he took pride in every project and never met a challenge he couldn't solve.
Strong in body and even stronger in spirit, Bob remained active well into his 70s, still chopping wood and taking on new projects. But his greatest strength was always his kind heart, humor, and love for his family, and the many rescue animals he and Rose loved and cared for over the years.
He loved to laugh, tell stories, grill on summer afternoons, and play pool or horseshoes. A man who could never sit still for long, Bob enjoyed tackling new projects constructing a deck, shed, and wooden fence that still stand proudly today. His craftsmanship endured, and before long, he became a sought-after handyman and carpenter known for his skill and reliability.
Bob cherished teaching his children and grandchildren the value of hard work and the joy of creating with their own hands-whether fixing lawnmowers, cleaning gutters, or building birdhouses. Every moment was a lesson, and every project, a memory made together.
He also found peace in the simple pleasures of life: sitting outside in his flannel jacket with a pair of binoculars, watching birds flutter by or planes soar overhead. With remarkable precision, he could identify the aircraft type and, based on its direction and altitude, tell you exactly where it was headed.
The lasting impact of Bob's love, generosity, and guidance will echo through generations. He was a man whose strength came not only from his hands but from his heart.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, and 21 days, Rosemarie, his lifelong companion and true soulmate-two hearts that could never be apart.
He leaves behind five children: Robert J. Poisson, Jr. of Norton, MA; Susan Poisson of Attleboro, MA; Lynne Calderone of
North Attleboro, MA; Cheryl Poisson of Franklin, MA; and Corinne Flynn and her husband, Mark Flynn, of Attleboro, MA.
He was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and is also survived by his siblings: Carol Cech of Colorado, Ronald Poisson and Richard Poisson, both of California. He is also remembered with love by three generations of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
Bob was predeceased by his siblings Lorraine, Jean Paul, Jacqueline, Joseph, Theodore, Edward, and Frank Poisson.
