Emily C. Edgar Ashline, 77, lovingly known as "Emmy," of
Bristol, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. She will be laid to rest under her maiden name, Edgar, honoring her family lineage.
Emily was born on July 12, 1948, in
New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Walter and Emily (Powchak) Edgar. She was raised in Plainville alongside her brother, Bertram "Sonny" Gray, who predeceased her. Emily was a proud graduate of Plainville High School.
In Plainville, Emily met and married William J. Ashline, and together they welcomed two daughters. Though later divorced, Emily and Bill renewed a warm friendship in her final months, bringing comfort and happiness to their family and to them both.
Emily is survived by her devoted daughters, Priscilla Ashline of
Bristol, CT, and Elizabeth (Liz) Ashline of
Fort Myers, FL and loving family and friends. In addition to her parents and brother, she was predeceased by a special niece, Pamela Steeves earlier this year.
Emily valued her autonomy and lived life on her own terms. Earlier in life, she thrived in her role in the Data Processing department at Bristol Hospital, where she formed lasting friendships and memories.
Emily found joy in quiet moments. She could often be found immersed in a book, accompanied by the family's beloved cat, Zildjian, who would tug at her glasses to steal her attention back. Her daughters remember a childhood filled with books, crochet, needlepoint, and latch hook projects. She had a special fondness for tiger lilies and pussy willows, flowers that reflected her gentle spirit and quiet strength.
Above all, Emily was a woman who taught her daughters the importance of independence, kindness, and resilience-lessons that will continue to guide them.
Emily will be laid to rest privately at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, where she will join her beloved father. A memorial service will be held locally at a later, yet-to-be-determined date
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prudence Crandall Center of
New Britain, CT, a leader in Connecticut's efforts to reduce the devastating impacts of domestic violence.
Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol, is honored to serve the family. Please visit Emily's memorial website at www.FunkFuneralHome.com.
