Emily Rose (nee: Fortunati) Carril, 85, peacefully passed from this life into the presence of her
Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 with family at her side after a 13-year battle
with Alzheimer Vascular Dementia.
Emily was born on May 2, 1938 to Hugo Fortunati and Blanche Ross. She was united in
marriage to Joseph Carril Jr on March 12, 1960 in East St. Louis, Illinois. Emily was a graduate of
Collinsville High School. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Oak Creek,
Wisconsin where she served faithfully in the Sunday School, Ladies Missionary Society, nursery
and church choir. Emily spent many years as a youth leader alongside her husband, Joe. She
was known as "Auntie Em" by the youth group members who loved her as family.
Emily worked at Racine Unified in the Human Resources Department until she retired after 30
years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting and traveling with her
husband. Many weekends would find Emily and Joe on the back of a motorcycle or in their
"Little Green Truck" traveling in and around Wisconsin, Lake Geneva, the western Wisconsin
area along the Mississippi and Door County being some of their favorite destinations. Emily
was a passionate Cubs fan, loved Starbucks and Wendy's Frosties. She was very proud of her
Italian heritage and could cook delicious meals from her memory with no recipes in hand. She
was the queen of casseroles and could also make a meal out of any kind of food.
Emily was a woman of unshakeable faith and loved music. As the dementia began to take over
her mind, music was a connection she really never lost. When a visit with Emily included music,
she would mouth the words to the songs in recognition.
Emily will be missed by her husband, Joe, children Nancy (Joe) Paczocha and Joe (Amy) Carril;
siblings, Sandy (Spencer) Steele and Robert (Ruth) Ross; grandchildren, Andrew (Andrea)
Paczocha, Leah (Micah) Houck, Ashley (Gerardo "Chachi") Saldana, Greg Carril, Olivia Carril and
Zach Paczocha; great-grandchildren, Diego, Dominic, Michael, Anthony, Isaiah and Everett. She
is preceded in death by her mother, Blanche Ross, father, Hugo Fortunati, and brother John
Ross.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Elizabeth Residence Oak
Creek and Badger Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Emily and her family. Also
thank you to the many friends who have supported us with their prayers over the last several
years.
