Emily was born in the San Diego County city of Escondido, the daughter of Timothy Osterman and Donna Osterman Krey. She is predeceased by her father. Raised in the Bay Area, she attended local schools, and at an early age began living life on her own terms.
Spirited, intelligent and unafraid to question rules and protocols that made no sense to her, she freely shared her droll views on the absurdities of officialdom – to the great amusement of friends and family. She found traditional classrooms boring, but thrived at Mid-Peninsula High School in Menlo Park, where she completed her studies in three years and was awarded the school's highest honor for a graduating senior. She later earned a BS degree in business at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Emily spent most of her 27-year career specializing in employee services at tech companies. She was known for her strong work ethic, dry wit and quick learning skills. As a Facebook program manager, she created a workspace promoting respect and communication without fear. She gained long-lasting loyalty from a global team and was especially proud that no member left the job during her six-year watch.
In 2022, Emily was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer. Throughout the pain and trials of the disease, she continued to work on-site, at home and sometimes in hospital rooms. She fought the terrors of her condition with courage and determination, and brought laughter to her loved ones with her quirky takes on the healthcare system. Two years into her struggle she was forced to go on disability. She used the time to enroll in two master's degree programs, earning top grades and completing all assignments up until one week before passing away.
Emily is survived by her mother and step-father, Donna and Michael Krey, Campbell; sister, Tessa Krey, Van Nuys; husband-partner, Trevor Meredith, Redwood City; uncles: Philip Pereira (Shari), Salem, OR; Andrew Pereira (Debra), Watsonville; Michael Pereira, San Jose; aunt, Kate Tschudin (Tom), HI; many cousins; her 3 beloved corgis and African Grey parrot. A private family tribute will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank all those who supported Emily on her journey by offering continuous love and positivity. Any donations in her name may be sent to an animal rescue organization of choice.
