Emma was born on May 17, 1931, in Port Isabel, TX where she grew up. She married Jay Barker and lived in Independence Missouri for many years. She moved back to Port Isabel and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church where she was a member of the Spanish Choir and the Guadalupanas. She enjoyed bingo. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and homemaker her entire life and dedicated her life to raising her family.
She is preceded in death by her son, Billy Jay Barker, parents, Norberto Sr. and Luisa Perez; 3 brothers, Norberto Perez, Jr., Pasqual Perez and Joe B. Perez; and 1 sister, Catarina Galvan.
She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Jay Roger Barker; 1 daughter, Karen Mae (Tommy) Loa; 2 sons, Bobby Ray Barker and James "Jimmy" Edward Barker/Maricel Sears; 11 grandchildren: Justin Ellie Barker, Melanie Barker, Stephanie Lynn Barker, Bobby Ray Barker II, Joshua William Barker, Che Loa, Thomas Loa, Jr., Abigail Loa Granger, James Edward Barker II, Ashley Nicole Ochoa and Mitchelle Leann Barker; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Lou Galvan and Rosie Tousley: and 1 brother, Jimmy Perez.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are James Edward Barker II, Bobby Ray Barker II, Joshua William Barker, Che Loa, Thomas Loa Jr., Zack Loa and Thomas Loa III. Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Galvan, Anthony Galvan, Nick Loa, and Luke Loa.
The family of Emma Perez Barker extends their heartfelt thanks to Annie Silva, Dora Gonzalez, Vicki Garcia, and Mindy Ramirez with Gentiva Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided.
