In Loving Memory of Emma Erlinda Chavez

Emma Erlinda Chavez passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and devotion that will continue to guide those who knew her. Emma was a woman deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, finding comfort and purpose in prayer, service, and trust in God. Her faith was not only something she practiced, but something she lived quietly teaching by example and offering unwavering support to those around her.

Emma was the restaurant and catering manager for the Mission Inn Best Western for 18 years. She then changed careers and became a coordinator with Coordinated Care, supervising caregivers for 10 years prior to her retirement.

Emma loved with a fierce and unwavering devotion. Family gatherings, shared meals, laughter, and time spent together were some of her most cherished moments, and those memories will be held close forever.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ernest Chavez; her father, Julian Jiron; her mother, Andrea Jiron; and her sister, Teresita Jiron.

Emma is survived by her two children, Larry Chavez (Dalia) and Bernadine Chavez (Vince). She was the loving grandmother of Jamie Chavez (Sarah), Javier Chavez (Nikki), Andrea Wittman (Jeremy), Alyssa Hood (Tyler) and Tiana Chavez. In her later years she was blessed with great-grandchildren: Chloe, Nyla, Gwendolyn, Jacob, Lucas, Cameron and Evelyn. Emma was also survived by her chosen sisters, Lillie Apodaca and Mary Garza.

Emma’s love lives on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of pride and joy for her. Her strength, faith, and kindness will remain a guiding light for generations to come.

Services will be held on January 16 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located at 1240 S. Espina St., Las Cruces, NM 88001, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mesilla Valley Hospice.

Emma Erlinda Chavez will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
