Emma Alina McDowell, age 72, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. She was born on February 8, 1953, in Quezon City, Philippines, and lived a life marked by quiet strength, devotion to her family, and a deep love for the simple comforts of home.
Emma was a very quiet and reserved person, speaking little unless she was with her family or those she trusted. She found joy in tending to her vegetable garden, caring for her rose bushes, playing Scrabble, completing word searches, and spending cherished time with her family and grandchildren. She was a loving mother to her three sons — Melandro, Randy, and Donald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. McDowell and son Randy, who passed away in October 2024.
Emma is survived by her children, Melandro Alina and Donald McDowell, and by her beloved grandchildren Kyle Alina and Emma R. McDowell, all of whom brought immense joy and purpose to her life.
Those who knew Emma will remember her as a quiet, steady presence — someone who loved deeply, cared quietly, and created a warm, welcoming home for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children and grandchildren and in the countless moments of love and comfort she shared with them.
A visitation will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Rd. Gulfport, MS on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a service beginning at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund, the Humane Society of South Mississippi, or a charity of your choice, in honor of Emma’s memory.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered condolences, prayers, and support during this time. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.
Emma will be profoundly missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved her.
