Max Glenn Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 6, 2026.
Reverend Doctor Max Eugene Glenn of Yachats Oregon passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Hospital Riverbend in Springfield Oregon.

Max was born in Burlington, Oklahoma on March 17, 1935, to Howard Hamilton Glenn and Mary Gladys (Prewett) Glenn. He was the eldest of three children, having two younger sisters, Mary Ann Jones (deceased) and Lois (husband Emanuel) Weigand.

He shared his Saint Patrick's Day birthday not only with his Great Grandmother, but also one of his Great Grandsons. Max had two children from his first marriage, Michael Bryan Glenn (wife Rosella) and Lynette Kay Meeske (husband Lloyd); four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Raised on a farm in the Oklahoma panhandle, Max received college degrees from Bible School at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma and Indianapolis Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples).

He began his ministry preaching at small churches in Freedom, Oklahoma; Swayzee, Indiana; and Evergreen, Colorado. Max spent the vast majority of his career in ecumenical work leading organizations at the city, state and regional levels -- in Knoxville, Tennessee, he served as Executive Director of the Commission on Religion in Appalachia and subsequently led Buffalo (New York) Area Metropolitan Ministries and then Oklahoma Council of Churches.

At the end of his career, he served as interim pastor for churches in Gulfport, Mississippi, and Aniston, Alabama, where he celebrated 45 years in ministry and retired in 2001 to Yachats, Oregon with his wife, Marie Soward Green. Together they set out to make a difference in their community and made many friends along the way, especially as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Max served many years as a Yachats City Councilman, Angel Job Corp Liaison and Yachats Youth and Family Activities Program Treasurer. He enjoyed his time volunteering at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Visitors Center in Yachats and with the Lions Club.

Max celebrated his life and 90th birthday in March 2025 with his two children and many friends. There is no other Celebration of Life planned at this time. Interment will be held in Oklahoma. Any memorial donations can be made to City of Yachats earmarked to Yachats Pavillion Restoration.
