Emma Widener Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service - Graniteville on Mar. 4, 2026.
Mrs. Emma Gean Toole Widener, 87, beloved wife of the late Mr. Horace David Widener, entered peacefully into rest on March 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, March 5, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Hatcher Funeral Home and Crematory, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, South Carolina. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Hollow Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Roy Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Chapman, Michael Chapman, Milton Chapman, Mikey Chapman, Ken Phillips, and Zachary Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former Deacons of the church.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Chris Brooks of Alabaster, Alabama; her grandson, Kip Smith of Beech Island, South Carolina; three special children, Krystal Roberson (Brian), Dakota Postles, and Tyler Brooks; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Roberson, Thomas Roberson, and Tobias Roberson; her sister, Vesta Mae Chapman of Jackson, South Carolina; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Born in Aiken, South Carolina, Mrs. Widener was the daughter of the late Cody S. Toole and Mae Heath Toole. She retired as an office manager after twenty years of dedicated service with Kmart Corporation.

A devoted and faithful member of Hollow Creek Baptist Church, Mrs. Widener served her church family as Sunday School secretary for seventeen years, was an active member of the WMU, and faithfully chaired the cemetery committee. She was a woman of deep Christian faith who expressed her love through her gift of country cooking, blessing family and friends with made-from-scratch meals prepared with care and affection.

Mrs. Widener treasured the many camping trips she and her husband, Horace, enjoyed in the mountains and at the beach with their family. Above all, she loved the Lord, her family, and her church.

In honor of Mrs. Widener's love for her church, memorial contributions may be made to the Hollow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 270 Independent Boulevard, Aiken, SC 29805.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of NHC North Augusta and Pruitt Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Mrs. Gean during her time with them.
