Mr. Emmett Lee Carter, Jr.71, who resided on South Albert Street, South Bend, Indiana passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Emmett aka Butchie was born January 13, 1954, in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the union of Emmett Lee and Emma Viola (Bluntson) Carter, both preceded him in death, and Geraline McDuffie who also preceded him in death.

After moving the family to South Bend, Emmett confessed a hope in Christ Jesus at a young age being baptized under the leadership of the late Elder James R. Freeman, Jr. at Bethel Tabernacle Church in South Bend.

He graduated from John Adams High School, thereafter, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Abraham Lincoln, and was honorably discharged in June 1976. With a few jobs in between Emmett continued to be a faithful, dedicated and hard worker for the city of South Bend's Century Center. Butchie with a green thumb enjoyed gardening and landscaping, until his illness.

Emmett is survived by his wife, Alice (McKeever) Carter, and sisters-in-law Lauren Richardson, FloEtta Jordon of Youngstown, Ohio, and Stephanie L. McDuffie of Cleveland, Ohio, his siblings Armetha Maddox, Nancy Jones, and Juanita (John) Townsell all of South Bend, special nieces Yvette (Eugene) Winters her daughters Faith and Angel of DeRidder, LA; Ashley Townsell of South Bend. Two loving granddaughters, Kajjmere A. Baker of Spring, Texas and Taryss J. McKeever. and one grandson, Nasir T. Walker both of South Bend along with special nephews LaNate Carter, Jay Townsell and a host of family members.

God gave each of us a special family that we can call our own. A family that loves us for who we are so we would never feel alone.

They may not like everything we do or everything we say, But he beautiful thing about "family" is that they love us anyway.
