Emory Carroll Watts Sr., lovingly known as "Big E," passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on May 25, 1939, at Bergman Hospital in
Livingston, Texas. Big E was a lifelong resident of Polk County and a cherished husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend to many.
Emory married the love of his life of 64 years, LaJoyce Locke, at Memorial Church in Pasadena, Texas, beginning a devoted marriage built on respect, hard work, and love. Together they created a home known as a safe place not only for their children, but for their children's friends as well.
Emory attended Livingston High School and furthered his education at Jacksonville Baptist College and Lee Junior College. He proudly served two years in the Air Force National Guard Reserves. Emory spent his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, where he worked as a telephone installer. Known for his strong work ethic, he was dependable and dedicated, rarely missing a day of work.
A true man of many trades, Emory could fix nearly anything. His sharp mind and practical intelligence earned him admiration from all who knew him often compared to "MacGyver" for his problem-solving skills. He was a natural teacher and mentor, always willing to pass on his knowledge.
Big E's greatest passions were hunting and the outdoors. He was known as "The Legend"-a skilled hunter, quick shooter, and storyteller who spent countless mornings and evenings in the woods and creeks of Bold Springs. He raised his family as hunters and welcomed any newcomers into the sport, guiding them with patience and pride. Many remember his stories of fishing, hunting, and growing up in the area memories that will live on.
Above all, Emory was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud provider. He treated his wife with honor and led his family by example. His companionship, wisdom, and mentorship will be deeply missed.
Emory is preceded in death by his son, Emory C. Watts Jr.; brother, Glen Watts; his parents, A.T. and Edith Watts; and son-in-law, Rocky Langston.

Funeral services will be held at Cochran Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 6th, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery.
Big E will forever be remembered as a legend an outdoorsman, mentor, and family man. He gave his family more than memories; he gave them lessons they will carry for the rest of their lives. Every moment spent with him was a gift. His guidance was their compass, and his love their foundation. His stories and guidance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he may have laid down his rifle here on earth, we take comfort knowing Big E is walking familiar woods once again and hunting the greatest deer lease, surrounded by memories and peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a cause that's close to their hearts.
