Eric "Recap" Willis Bishop, 57, of Kingwood, entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by his wife and daughters, after a fierce and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in
Kingwood, WV, on January 7, 1969, the son of Carolyn "Sue" (Bolinger) Bishop and the late Willis "Possum" Kay Bishop.
Eric was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother. He was a 1987 graduate of Central Preston High School. After high school he attended the Diesel Mechanic Program in
Grantsville, MD. He began his trucking career at Jenkins Trucking where he worked on trucks long before he could drive, Metro Tire hauling recapped tires, thus the CB handle, "Recap", was born. From that point he drove truck for many years at Cam-Col Trucking and has spent the last 20 years at Preston Contractors as a truck driver and later as fleet supervisor, where he mentored many drivers with his experience and wisdom. Eric wasn't just dependable – he was someone you could always count on. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Whether it was providing for them, protecting them, or simply being present, his love showed in everything he did. He was a steady presence, a strong supporter, and a man whose actions spoke louder than words. Eric instilled the value of hard work in his girls. He was a member of the Pleasantdale United Methodist Church and the Kingwood FOE 2391 where he served as President for several years. Eric will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and the love he gave so freely. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and in the stories shared around campfires, family tables, and long stretches of highway.
In addition to his mother, Eric is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kelly (McGee) Bishop; two daughters, Briana Bishop of Kingwood and Chelsea Bishop and husband Barry of Wheeling; one brother, Jason Bishop and wife Beth of Bruceton; one sister, Melanie Bishop of Kingwood; niece and nephew, Cassie and Kyler; stepson, Shane Bolyard; step grandson, Carter Bolyard and his mother-in-law, Vanice McGee. Eric also leaves behind his beloved basset hound, Jenny, and his feline companions, Boo, Radley and Grace.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Glinda Reckart; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Alma Bolinger and paternal grandparents, Stephen and Goldie Bishop.
