Eric Boukather Obituary

Published by Legacy from Jan. 9 to Jan. 14, 2026.
Eric John Boukather was born on December 2, 1975, to Robert and Barbara Boukather. He was the middle child of three, with two sisters, Jennifer and Tanya, whom he loved deeply. Eric was fiercely loyal to his family and did everything he could to support and protect those he loved.
Eric attended Wapato schools and graduated from Davis High School in 1994. He went on to attend Walla Walla Community College, where he played football on scholarship-an experience that reflected both his athletic ability and his determination.
Above all, Eric loved his people. He was especially proud of his daughter, Peyton, who was the light of his life. He also shared a profound bond with Robert Hanson, his main father figure, whose guidance and belief in Eric shaped him deeply.
Eric was also deeply impacted by his lifelong foster brother and dear friend, Jason Burrill, who stood by Eric throughout his life and continually tried to help and support him. Jason and his wife, Bobbie Burrill, were part of Eric's extended family and remained a source of care, encouragement, and love.
Eric struggled for much of his life with substance abuse and longed to be free from it. Despite this battle, he held firmly to his faith. Eric was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and sincerely sought to live with integrity, love others as Christ did, and extend grace and acceptance whenever he could.
Eric passed away in January 2026, shortly after his 50th birthday, as the result of a drug overdose. His death is a heartbreaking reminder of the realities of addiction, but his life is remembered for his love, his faith, and his desire for redemption and freedom.
Having Eric live with us and knowing him for nearly 40 years, we loved him deeply and walked alongside him through many seasons of life. We always hoped and prayed for a better outcome, and while our hearts grieve, we find comfort in knowing that Eric is now at peace. He will always be part of our family and our story.
Eric is survived by his daughter, Peyton Rentz; his sister, Jennifer Boukather, Gary Boukather, Donna Eich; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Eric will be remembered for his big heart, his devotion to those he loved, and his unwavering hope for a better life. His story is one of love, struggle, faith, and the enduring impact of a man who deeply cared.
