Eric Robert Gehling

Eric Robert Gehling was born on September 2, 1988, the son of Daniel and Carolyn (Hansen) Gehling in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Missouri Valley and later confirmed at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. Eric received his education from Ar-We-Va High School and graduated with the class of 2007. He then went on to Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville and obtained his associate degree in wind turbines. Eric spent time working in the maintenance department at Smithfield.

Eric was a meticulous and quiet person who liked to pass time by drawing and playing video games. He had a deep love for music. In high school, his parents bought him a guitar and that opened a door for him. Eric had some music knowledge from his high school band years and he taught himself how to play the guitar, as music came very natural to him. He was exceptionally talented and could play a song just by listening to it. He also enjoyed writing his own music. Eric had a love for nature, especially lizards and snakes. Another one of his favorite things was riding motorcycles with his brother, Alex.

Eric passed away at his home in Vail on Monday, September 25, 2023, at the age of 35 years and 23 days.

With heavy hearts, Eric is survived by his parents, Dan and Carolyn Gehling of Denison; sister, Amanda Gehling of Wailuku, Hawaii; brother, Alex Gehling and his fiancée, Tabitha Taylor of Vail; maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary (Campbell) Hansen of Missouri Valley; paternal grandparents, Larry and Mary Lou (Bierl) Gehling of Westside; niece, Liliana Gehling; aunts and uncles: Laura (John) Meier of Missouri Valley, Julie (Bob) Steinkamp of Arcadia, Ron (Karen) Gehling of Carroll, Pat (Sue) Gehling of Maple River, Jenni (Dennis) Stoberl of Manning, Ann Gehling of Westside, Cathy (Josh) Colvin of Colfax and Joan (Mike) Schulte of Westside; many cousins; and other relatives and friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Eric’s Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, also at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Memorials may be directed to the family.
