Lorraine Maxine Groth was born on January 2, 1933, in Boyer, Iowa, to Herbert and Hilda (Weinbrandt) Baker. She was baptized on February 19, 1933, at her home in Boyer and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. Lorraine attended Kiron Country School.
On December 9, 1951, Lorraine was united in marriage to Gerald Jurgensen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. Five children were born to this union. The couple made their home south of Schleswig, where they farmed together and raised their family. Gerald preceded her in death in 1978. In 1981, Lorraine moved to Denison. During their years together, Lorraine and Gerald enjoyed square dancing.
Lorraine later married Wilbert Groth on March 24, 1995, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Lorraine found joy in playing cards with friends, flower and vegetable gardening, and caring for the animals on the farm. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Throughout her life, Lorraine worked in various roles. She was a devoted farm wife, drove school bus for Denison Community Schools, and later worked as a custodian at the Crawford County Courthouse and at Lutheran schools in Denison.
Lorraine passed away on February 9, 2026, at Gracewell, at 93 years of age.
In addition to her parents, Herbert and Hilda Baker, Lorraine was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Jurgensen and Wilbert Groth; infant son, Roger Jurgensen; son-in-law, Charles Meyer; brother, Alfred (Claris) Weinbrandt; sister-in-law, Ruby Johannsen; brothers-in-law, Vertus Groth, Milroy Groth, Paul Meeves, Gene Schneider; and sisters-in-law, Irene (Herman) Meiners, Marilyn (Darlo) Pirwitz, and Darlene (Arlo) Jensen.
She is survived by her children: Rhonda (Gary) Hank of Wayfield, NE; Denise (Bryce) Meeves; Barry Jurgensen; and Robin Meyer all of Denison; Wilbert’s children: Roger (Teri) Groth of Denison; Diane (Marvin) Graeve of Denison; Russell Groth of South Carolina; and Debbie White of Maryland; sisters-in-law: Marlys Groth, Betty Meeves, Marlene Schneider, and Margaret (Ervin) Moeller; 11 grandchildren: Chad (Holly) Hank; Kristen (Chad) Oletzke; Bradley Meeves (fiancé Lindsey Kropf); Brooke Meeves; Melissa (Chris) McClure; Barry G. (Jennifer) Jurgensen; Joshua (Jessica) Jurgensen; Shane (Amber) Jurgensen; Jennifer (Jason) Knickman; Jessica Meyer; and Jonathan Meyer; Wilbert’s grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Visitation, with family greeting friends, will be held Monday, February 16, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 a.m., all at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial will be held in Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig.
