Eric V. Howard
October 28, 1964 – February 2, 2026
Eric Victor VanHook Howard, a beloved father, musician, and selfless friend, passed away on February 2, 2026, at the age of 61. Born in
Detroit, Michigan, on October 28, 1964, Eric was known as the kind of man who would truly help anyone in need.
He is preceded in death by his father, Stanley Young. His legacy of kindness and melody is carried on by his mother, Christine Howard; his siblings, Shirlene Howard, Natalie White, Dewayne Howard, and Carl McCoy; and his cherished sons, Louis Howard and Davin Howard, whom he spoke of with endless pride and love. He also leaves behind a vibrant generation of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Lastly, we cannot forget his loving fur-baby companion Luna. Who will go on to live out the rest of her days with Eric's son Davin.
Eric, a man whose heart was as large as his smile, leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will never be forgotten. He was known as an amazing friend and the quintessential "shirt off his back" kind of man. Eric lived his life in service to others, both in his personal relationships and his professional career.
Eric dedicated his professional life to serving others as a direct care worker, forming deep bonds with his colleagues and residents. Beyond his work, he was a cornerstone of his community, leaving behind a massive CHS Group family and a lifetime of friendships. A lifelong lover of music, Eric found his greatest joy behind the turntables as a DJ or playing several instruments, bringing energy and rhythm to every event he touched.
As a dedicated direct care worker Eric found his true calling in supporting those who needed it most. He didn't just perform a job; he provided dignity, comfort, and a steady hand to his residents. His colleagues and the families he served remember him for his infinite patience and the genuine joy he brought into every room. He had a rare gift for seeing the person behind the care needs, treating everyone with the respect and love they deserved.
Eric taught us the most valuable thing you can give someone isn't money or advice-it's your time and undivided attention. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 25th 2026 at the Monroe Nazarene Church. 3401 S. Custer Rd.
Monroe, MI 48161. Visiting will start at 11:00am with a service at 12:00pm and lunch will follow the service. In Lieu of flowers, we simply ask that you honor Eric's memory by doing something kind for another human being today- just like he would have done.
