Eric L. Johnson

Eric L. Johnson (77), of Acton, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA.
Born December 6, 1947 in Coudersport, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph M. Johnson and Doris J. Boyd, and step-son of the late Esther W. Pfuntner. He is predeceased by his siblings, Loretta J. Berger, Sigrid J. Wilkinson, and Ralph M. Johnson, Jr.
Eric is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Denise E. Johnson; his former wife, Susan M. Johnson; his son, Adam G. Johnson and wife Julia V. Prokesova; his daughter, Jenna L. Johnson and husband Daniel A. Fonseca; his step-daughter, Camilla R. Rohr and husband Adam M. Rohr; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Coudersport Area High School in 1965, earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Bucknell University in 1969, and later earned a master's degree in computer engineering from Northeastern University.
Throughout his career as a software engineer, Eric contributed his talents to companies including Raytheon, Cisco, Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), Zoran Corporation, CSR plc, Qualcomm Incorporated, and several startups. Following his retirement from Qualcomm in 2020, he discovered a new passion for amateur radio and was known by his call sign KC1OAV. In 2023, he participated in the New England Sci-Tech high altitude weather balloon launch, a hands-on project for youth and families.
Eric was creative, thoughtful, and always in a state of learning. He enjoyed 3D printing, reading, poetry, stained glass, and playing trombone in the local community band. An outdoor enthusiast, he cherished spending time in nature with his wife, especially enjoying camping, hiking, boating, swimming, and skiing.
A long-time member of the South Acton Congregational Church (SACC) community, Eric found fulfillment in volunteering with the SACC Movers, a charity moving service for those in need.
Eric will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness and deep love for his family and friends. He was known for his gentle spirit, intelligence, and wit.
