Eric Kinard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ronald Taylor II Funeral Home - Washington D.C. from Jun. 1 to Jun. 5, 2024.
Celebrating the Life of Eric Douglas Kinard Sr.
Eric Douglas Kinard, Sr. was born on January 25, 1969 at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. to Earl Douglas Kinard and Marian Louise Kinard. He was the eldest of two children.
At a very young age, Eric accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while attending Sacred Heart Catholic Church (now Shrine of Sacred Heart). He attended D.C. Public/Private Schools and graduated from Cardozo High School. As a teenager, Eric was very active and played trumpet in the high school marching band. Additionally, he played basketball and street football with the local Boys & Girls Clubs. After high school, he briefly attended the University of the District of Columbia.
Eric met, as he referred to, "the love of his life", Sherri Lynn Wilson, on November 5, 1994. The two were united in Holy Matrimony on August 9, 2003. From this union, the couple was blessed with three sons and one daughter. Eric loved his family wholeheartedly! Spending quality time with and providing for his family were his number one priority.
Eric was a hardworking man. His first job was at the age of 14 with the D.C. Government where he worked as a Camp Assistant at Camp Goodwill and Camp Pleasant. Through his hard work and dedication to the kids, he was promoted to Assistant Director. In 1991, he joined the Easter Seals as a Teacher's Assistant and even participated in a televised fundraising marathon. Eric later began to expand his interest in the work field by joining the Washington Service Bureau (WSB) where he worked as a mail carrier. He then decided to change direction by learning to repair household appliances and perform carpentry work. He began his first service technician position with JBG Property Management where he learned to repair small household appliances, perform electrical and plumbing installation and repairs, install doors, and many other duties. He worked for several other property management companies including Kay Management, Southern Management, and Realty Management where he expanded his hands-on training in apartment maintenance until he retired from Ross Companies.
During his spare time, Eric enjoyed helping family and friends with household repairs and providing other assistance that was needed. He always looked for ways to help others improve their situation. Oftentimes, he provided repair work at no charge. He was sincerely loving, caring and kindhearted.
Eric loved sports and enjoyed watching ESPN and Martial Arts movies. He was a true Washingtonian, supporting all the local sports teams. Eric was also a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders (formerly known as the Oakland Raiders) and was an avid fan of native basketball talent Kevin Durant. He volunteered to coach for the Maryland Boys & Girls Club (MBGC), AAU youth basketball league and Pop Warner youth football league. He even coached his sons during his time with MBGC. Eric created the slogan for the Metro Bengals Youth Football Organization in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, "One Team - One Unit!" He enjoyed cooking on the grill, fishing with his sons and coworkers, bowling and definitely loved his go-go music. For a time, Eric was a member of the Young Boys go-go band where he played the conga drums.
Eric was outgoing, outspoken, and humorous. His youthful exuberance made others laugh at his antics. He was a strong man who was sincerely loving, caring, kindhearted and, above all else, loyal to his family.
The Lord called Eric home from this earthly life on Friday, May 24, 2024. He
leaves to cherish his memories: mother Marian Kinard; father Earl Kinard (Francenia); wife Sherri Wilson-Kinard; four children, Eric Jr., Cortez, Shalyse and Carlos Kinard; sister Melissa Kinard; devoted nephew Joshua Wilson; a "soon-to-be" granddaughter, and a host of other relatives and close friends.
We honor and remember Eric Kinard, Sr. for the remarkable man he was, a beacon of light in the lives to all who knew him. His faith in God was endless. May his spirit soar free, and his memory be a blessing to all of us.
"Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die - it is what it is."
-Eric Kinard, Sr.
