Eric Marshall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plainville Funeral Home - Plainville on Dec. 14, 2025.
Eric E. Marshall 85, formerly of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Friday December 12, 2025, with his daughter by his side. Eric will be remembered for his patriotism, generosity, and the steady presence he brought to the lives around him.

Born October 16, 1940, he was raised and educated in Bristol, one of five children to the late Ernest and Thelma Marshall. After graduating from Bristol Eastern High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. His love of country never faded; his collection of flags weren't just decorations to him, they were a statement of his lifelong patriotism.

After his service, Eric settled in Terryville, where he served on the Terryville Volunteer Fire Department and spent over 30 years as a dedicated employee of the Barnes Group in Bristol, showing up every day with a strong work ethic and quiet pride.

Eric loved the outdoors; camping trips, fishing, and being anywhere he could enjoy fresh air and simple pleasures. In later years, his adventures took a different form: tag sales, yard sales, and shopping excursions. He had a knack for finding treasures and an even bigger habit of giving them away. If Eric found something good, chances are he already had someone in mind to share it with. He was a fan of country western movies, never missed a chance to cheer on UConn Women's Basketball, and was fiercely proud of his family. Eric was a proud Dad, but his favorite title was "Poppy," especially when it came to his two grandsons, who brought him endless joy.

His family extends heartfelt thanks to Beacon Medications, his second family at Herald Square Dialysis, and the officers of the Plainville Police Department for their care, kindness, and support.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, Gloria Harris, her husband Kevin and their sons, Kyle and Sean; his siblings Herbert, Connie, Maryanne and Karen along with their families; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville. Words of remembrance led by Life Celebrant Jesse Gnazzo will be shared at 7 p.m. He will be laid to rest privately at the StateVeterans Cemetery in Middletown.
