Eric Demarcus Miller, affectionately known as "Miller" or "E," was born in Jackson, Mississippi, at Baptist Hospital on February 26, 1980, to his parents, Alonzo and Shirley Miller. He joined the family with his brother, Maurice Miller, who was 4 years old then. Nearly five years later, Eric became the second big brother to his only sister, Ebony Miller (Thomas). Eric was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, until the family moved to Meridian, Mississippi, a few months after his baby sister, Ebony, was born. He attended Witherspoon Elementary and completed kindergarten and first grade. The Miller family moved from Meridian, Mississippi, to Madison, Mississippi in 1988, and there Eric continued his education at Rosa Scott Elementary and Middle School. He completed his second through seventh grade years and finished his eighth grade year at V.L. Reuben School in Bolton, Mississippi. He was a band member, played the French horn, and was a talented athlete on the baseball team. Eric attended Raymond High School in 1995 and graduated as a member of the 1999 class. He was a beloved and good student. He was a gifted choir member, an honorable JROTC cadet, a fantastic football player, and a proud teammate of the dedicated State Championship Track Team.
He was happy and proud to share in this success with his sister and track mate, Ebony, during his senior year. Eric was well known for his outstanding and bold presence, work ethic, and loyalty as a gifted and successful football and track star. To say he was fast just didn't measure up. He ran with precision and confidence, seeming to glide over hurdles effortlessly. He was awarded and especially acknowledged for his abilities in every sport and organization he was a member of. Most of all, he gained many friends and expanded his family during these 4 years. He also attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi, on an athletic scholarship and joined the track team there.
Eric was a member of Greater Mt. Bethel COCHUSA church with his family for many years. He grew up learning about God and how to live and serve in the Christian faith. He served in the children's and adult's choir, as standard bearer, in brotherhood ministry, on COCHUSA basketball team, a Sunday school secretary and worked diligently with former Greater Mt. Bethel Pastor, James E. Turner, Sr. at the Neighborhood Christian Center. From a young age, Eric took an interest in cooking and food plating. He has served in the restaurant industry for 20 years and became a skillful and favored professional cook. In his last place of employment at Aspen Creek Grill, he loved to cook and worked with dedication and charm.
He departed this life in his home in Tyler, TX, where he resided for nearly 9 years. He leaves to cherish his memories: his sons, Surrentay J. Miller and Eric Miller Jr.; granddaughter, Erayjah Miller of Grenada, Mississippi; his mother, Shirley Miller of Jackson, Mississippi; his father, Alonzo Miller (Peggy Miller) of Louisville, Mississippi; his brother, Maurice Miller (Latischa Miller) of Baltimore, Maryland; his nephew Wynton Miller of Gautier, Mississippi; step-nieces, Elisabeth and Gabby; his sister, Ebony Thomas (Minister Jonathan Thomas); nieces, Harmony and Melody
Thomas of Jackson, Mississippi; 13 uncles and aunts; 30 first cousins; and a beautiful host of beloved family and friends.
