Eric Snider Obituary

Eric H. Snider, husband of Anne Snider for nearly 50 years, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Eric is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Inez Snider of Anderson, and his aunts and uncles. Eric leaves behind his wife, Anne; his daughter, Eva, and her wife, Jenny, of Boston; his son, Adam, and his wife, Emma, and two grandchildren who lovingly called him Pa Eric — Flora (7) and Lowell (3), of Washington DC; as well as cousins De’Ann, Mandy, Vivian, and Billy. An only child, Eric’s family became much larger and richer when he married Anne and gained a sister, three brothers, their spouses, and four siblings and their spouses. His heart was always filled with family.

Born on April 14, 1951, in Anderson, SC, Eric was a graduate of TL Hanna High School and earned a BS chemistry degree from Clemson University. He then earned his MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Clemson. During that time, he met and married Anne, who was earning her master’s degree in English with a minor in zoology.

After graduating, Eric’s first step in his environmental engineering career took him and Anne to Tulsa, OK, where he taught at the University of Tulsa and where their son, Adam, was born. Their next move brought them to Atlanta, where Eric had a job with a consulting firm that sent him traveling extensively to Air Force bases across the country to help lead environmental remediation projects. Their daughter, Eva, was born

while they were living in Atlanta.

Eric’s final professional move brought them back to Clemson and near their families. There, he ran the Continuing Engineering Education Department for Clemson and later joined a consulting firm in Greenville. Over the course of his career, Eric was a trusted voice among his peers and took great pride in mentoring several younger colleagues who became personal friends.

Adam and Eva were raised in Camelot, the family home for 27 years, where Eric made many improvements and expansions. He retired in April 2017, and that same month, he and Anne downsized to Clemson Downs, where they enjoyed living alongside many of their closest friends.

Eric was an active member of the Clemson community and actively engaged in his family’s lives. He took great pleasure in taking on numerous “Projects” with a capital P and was always looking for ways to help out his family, the neighborhood, and the church. He enjoyed improving the summer fishing camp in Maine that he and Anne bought next door to the family camp. Instead of joining a gym, Eric cheerfully worked in the yard, taking care of the flowers and plants there.

When he visited family, he would make sure he had all he needed to wash their windows or detail their car. He relished his role as the designated dishwasher and cleaner-upper after big family meals and celebrations, and he could load a dishwasher with the precision of an engineer.

He was active at Clemson United Methodist Church (CUMC), where he spearheaded the improvement of the church organ and the reintegration of the pipes with the electronic portions of the organ. He built custom music stands for the choir loft in the new church. He loved music, and as his work schedule allowed, he would serve as “roadie” for the handbell choir, later on ringing with the Celebration Ringers and manning the “Big Bells.” He participated in Men’s Bible Study, the Wesley Partners Investment Club, the Chancel Choir, and the Golden Guild. Recently, he served on the Columbarium Committee. His ashes will be interred at the columbarium when it is finished.

Eric would spend hours refinishing vintage furniture to decorate his and Anne’s and their children’s homes. Having been diagnosed with Parkinson’s 12 years ago, he explored all the current research on Parkinson’s and mentored friends and acquaintances who had been newly diagnosed with the condition. Following his

diagnosis, he was active in the Greenville Area Parkinson Society and attended events and helped raise funds for the GAPS programs. He loved public radio, a funny t-shirt, and a good pun. He loved chemistry but only talked about it periodically.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Greenville Area Parkinson’s Society (GAPS), the CUMC music department, or the CUMC Celebration Ringers handbell choir.

A Celebration of Life for Eric will be held in the Worship Center on Sunday, February 15, at 3:00 pm at Clemson United Methodist Church, 300 Frontage Road, Clemson. The family invites you to visit with them after the service.
