Eric Daniel Spillar was born on September 22, 1982, in
Dallas, Texas, and lived a life marked by service, deep love for his family, and an unmistakable personality. Above all else, Eric loved his wife and his two children fiercely and wholeheartedly. His family was his center, and some of his happiest moments were spent at home during family grill nights - especially smoking steaks for his kids and making sure every detail was just right.
Eric had a strong passion for adventure and the outdoors. He loved the beach, mountain biking, skiing, and overlanding, always seeking opportunities to explore and enjoy life to the fullest. Known for his sharp wit, quick sarcasm, and perfectly timed comebacks, Eric was often the life of the party. A true Type A personality, he was highly organized, overly meticulous, and took pride in doing things the right way.
To his friends; Eric was loyal, dependable, and deeply caring. He often showed his love quietly and privately, offering support in his own meaningful ways. He enjoyed competitive shooting events and had a strong appreciation for firearms, a hobby he approached with the same discipline and focus he brought to every part of his life. Eric also felt truly at home at Hillside Fellowship Church, where his faith was an important part of his journey.
Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara A. Spillar; his maternal grandfather, James A. Lucas; his paternal grandmother, Carmen "Marie" Spillar; his paternal grandfather, J.H. "Bill" Spillar; and his step-sister, Amy Cicherski.

Eric began his career with the Buda Fire Department on September 7, 2010, dedicating 15 years of service to the department. He also served three years with San Marcos Hays County EMS. A respected mentor and trainer, Eric played a vital role in shaping the next generation of firefighters and paramedics.
As one of the first twelve paramedics hired by the Buda Fire Department, Eric was instrumental in developing paramedic training programs and serving his respected brothers and sisters in peer support. He also taught CPR courses throughout the community, extending his impact well beyond the firehouse. Throughout his career, Eric consistently demonstrated professionalism, compassion, and strong leadership. His dedication and excellence earned him various awards throughout his career.
Eric will be remembered for his love and commitment to his wife and children. Lieutenant Spillar will also be remembered for his unwavering commitment to public service and the meaningful relationships he built within the Fire and EMS community. Eric's life was a reflection of service, love, and faith. He trusted in the Lord, found comfort in his relationship with Christ, and felt at home within his church community. While his absence leaves a profound void, those who loved him find peace in knowing that Eric has been welcomed home, healed and whole, resting in God's eternal care.
