Erik Gustafson Stark, 63, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on December 28, 2025.
Born with a strong sense of duty and integrity, Erik dedicated his life to service, both to his country and to those he loved. As a graduate of the California Maritime Academy, he proudly served in the United States Navy as an active duty officer on the USS MacDonough (DDG-39) and at Commander Mine Warfare Command in Charleston, South Carolina. Following his active-duty tour, Erik worked as a Merchant Marine Second Mate while continuing his commitment to the Naval Reserve, retiring at the rank of Captain (O-6). As a Second Mate, he was known throughout the maritime community as a skilled and reliable navigator who could be counted on in any conditions.
Above all else, Erik was a devoted father. He is survived by his beloved children, Fletcher and Monika, who were the center of his world. Whether cheering from the sidelines, offering patient guidance, or simply being present, he was deeply passionate about being a supportive and encouraging dad. His love for his family defined him.
Erik had a lifelong love of fishing, cooking, and fixing just about anything-earning a reputation as the ultimate "fix-it" man among family and friends. If something was broken, he could repair it, improve it, or rebuild it better than before. He was known for his classic dad jokes that could elicit both groans and laughter, his steady reliability when anyone needed help, and his unwavering respect for rules, responsibility, and country. An outstanding citizen in every sense, Erik lived with integrity and purpose.
Erik will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, humor, craftsmanship, and devotion to those he loved.
