Erin Brigid (D'heron) Varga
Mrs. Erin Varga passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 16, 2024, with her husband John, son Danny and daughter Kiera by her side at their home in Hampton. She was fifty-two years old.
Erin was born in Trenton and raised in New Brunswick. She attended St. Mary's of Mount Virgin Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Peter's High School where she was a cheerleader and excelled at soccer. She continued her education at the New York School of Interior Design. Mrs. Varga resided in New Brunswick for many years where she and her husband John raised their children before moving to Hampton in Hunterdon County.
She had a lengthy career in education at Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset. She began there as a teacher's assistant in the lower school then was employed as an art teacher and computer teacher. Mrs. Varga was also a cross-country coach at Rutgers Prep. The relationships she formed with her coworkers, students, athletes, and the Rutgers Prep community were indeed profound and deeply rooted.
After losing her father, Deputy Chief James D'heron (New Brunswick Fire Department), while he was on a fire call, Erin founded the James D'heron Memorial Foundation. The foundation was responsible for raising funds to support the needs of burn victims and the Children's Burn Camp, which she volunteered at for a few summers. Locally the foundation sponsored fundraising events and was well known for the Jimmy D 5K race in Erin's hometown of New Brunswick.
She was an accomplished runner, completed two marathons, many half marathons and an unknown number of 5k's. Erin enjoyed photography, music and art and days at the beach. Recently, she gravitated to making art pieces out of sea glass. She liked to walk with her friends from Hunterdon County and recently became certified to lead meditation. Erin also loved her many pets including her favorite, Rory.
Mrs. Varga was predeceased by her father Deputy Chief James D'heron (NBFD), her brother Michael "Mickey" D'heron and brother-in-law James Varga.
She is survived by her husband John and their children Daniel and Kiera. She is also survived by her mother Kathleen (Ferguson) D'heron and brother James D'heron, father-in-law and mother in law Jack and Irene, nephew Liam D'heron and sister-in-law Jill Wallen.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday March 22, 2024, at 11 AM at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church on Somerset Street in New Brunswick. All other services will take place privately.
