Ernest Baker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home - Selbyville on Jan. 2, 2026.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ernest Atwood Baker, aged 101, who departed this life peacefully on December 27, 2025, at Tidal Health in Salisbury. Born on April 26, 1924, to his parents Ernest J. Baker and Rada Mitchell Baker. Ernest lived a life characterized by honor, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Ernest was more than just a truck driver; he was a steadfast pillar of support and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He took great pride in his work and embodied the values of dedication and reliability. His family remembers him as a man of his word, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, proving time and again that he was truly the rock of his family. Ernest had a passion for gardening and fishing.
Surviving him are his beloved daughters, Sharon Esham (Rick) and Carolyn Hitchens(Steve); his devoted brother, Philip Baker (Joanne), and sister-in-law, Roberta Baker. Ernest also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren-Shanna Esham, Rishelle O'Brian, Ronald Baker, and Mitchell Baker-as well as several great-grandchildren who adored him, including Allison Coffin, Dillan Coffin, Aaron Coffin, Lillian O'Brian and Perry O'Brian.
A memorial service to celebrate Ernest's life will take place on January 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with a public viewing preceding the service at 11:00 AM. Both events will be held at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home, 19 South Main Street, Selbyville, Delaware, where family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and appreciation of a remarkable man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
While we mourn his passing, we also remember his spirit and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on in our hearts and memories.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Baker and Rada Baker, his wife Elizabeth Truitt Baker of whom were married for 53 years, his son, Ronnie Baker and brothers, Barry Baker, Fred Baker, Robert "Bob" Baker.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 387, Pittsville, MD 21850 or Pittsville Cemetery, P.O. Box 111, Pittsville, MD 21850.
