Born on March 15, 1940 in Coldwater, KS. Passed away on January 10, 2026 at age 85, surrounded by his loving family.

Ernest was a teacher and coach, serving in the Milwaukee Public Schools, Topeka, Kansas High School, and, finally, for 30 years, in the School District of Elmbrook. He also served as the Director and Lead Instructor of the gymnastics program for the Wauwatosa Recreation Department and the Greendale Recreation Department for many years. A lifelong athlete, he played football, basketball and ran track at Coldwater Highschool, Southwestern College, and ran 7 marathons in his 50s. In retirement, he was an avid gardener, cultivating beautiful trees, flowers, and vegetables around his and Beverly's home, and worked 15 years part-time as a delivery driver for Barb's Green House Florist in Hales Corners, Wisconsin. He was a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity as well as at Christ United Methodist Church where he was a long-time member and served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a life member of the National Education Association.

He was the devoted and loving husband of Beverly (nee Reynolds) for 65 years; father of Allyson Bennett (Peter Pierre), Brad Bennett, and Stephanie Jacks (Jeremiah); brother of Alice Matthews and Wesley Bennett (Eloisa), and brother-in-law of Ernest William Reynolds (Glenda) and John Richard Reynolds (Elaine). I ran cross country at Elmbrook Middle School (later called Pilgrim Park) in Autumn 1994 and 1995. Coach Bennett was passionate about what he did and encouraged a healthy level of athleticism via running and cross-training. He cared about us and put forth great efforts. His teams were the best in the area. The 8th grade team went undefeated in 1994 and 1995.

He took meticulous records and provided them in booklet form to us, the students, at the end of the season - record keeping that some college programs barely do.

I still run, though not with the same intensity or frequency, today; I probably wouldn't if it were not for Coach Bennett. He left a positive mark on my life. He will be missed.

Ernie was one of the first teachers I met at Pilgrim Park and my first words to him were. Mr. Bennett I am sorry we will need to take up your teaching space for our band concerts. He replied that know one had ever said that to him. He looked shocked. It was out of respect and he gave me the same thing back.

Aunt Beverly, we are thinking of you all at this time and praying for all of you. I have a lot of memories of uncle Ernest and remember a lot of my childhood with him. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
