Ernest Darrell Canterbury, 82, passed away at his home in Pearland, TX, Monday, October 17, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on February 6, 1940, in Hurricane, LA to Ernest and Camille.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest Shumpert "Dock" Canterbury, and Camille Arma Pike Canterbury; daughter Kelly Rene Canterbury; two sisters, Voncile Hood, and Joyce Lawanda Nemec and two brothers, Donald Ray Canterbury, and Ronald Gene Canterbury.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Canterbury; brothers, James Malvin Canterbury and wife Clarine, Hammond, LA, Michael Wayne Canterbury and wife Judy of Coushatta, LA, Harold Lynn Canterbury and wife Belinda of Ponchatoula, LA; daughter, Kayla Valdez and husband Frank; stepdaughter, Shirley Tijerina and husband Felix; and stepsons, Paul Torres Jr., Owen Torres, Robert Torres and, Michael Sutton; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Darrell grew up in the Claiborne Parish community of Hurricane and went to school in Athens, LA. He moved to Texas in 1961. He worked as a welder and operated his own business ED Canterbury Welding in Pearland, TX where he has lived for the past 37 years. He was a loving family man and hard worker. He enjoyed visiting the casino to play craps. He lived daily for staying connected with those closest to his heart and he often would begin his conversations with "Que paso." He also was a jokester and would have you falling for bull**** as he would laugh and say "huh?"
A graveside service will be held for our beloved Ernest Darrell Canterbury on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. at Hurricane Cemetery north of Arcadia, LA, Bro. Michael Lindsey "Dogie," will officiate. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Arcadia, LA.
Pallbearers will be Alex Valdez, Don Canterbury, Jr., Kirk Canterbury, Jeffrey Kay, Jerry Kay, Tracy Canterbury, Honorary Pallbearers will be Alycia Valdez and Emily Guerra.
