Ernest, best known as “Ernie” and “Teddy” was born on May 25, 1930, in Zookspur, IA to Edgar Carl DeVan and Lucille Bradford DeVan. He was the brother of 4 brothers and 4 sisters. In 1938, the DeVan Family moved to Walsenburg, CO. He graduated from Huerfano County High School in 1938. Some years after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1948, where he was on multiple ships, to include the USS Dixie, USS Carmick, USS Hubbard, USS Piedmont and USS Sioux and served his time during the Korean War. During the years of the Cold War, he continued his service as a civilian and spent additional time overseas in Vietnam as a contractor with the Air Force and Pacific Architects & Engineers. During his time, he received many letters of appreciation for his work from the U.S. Army during this timeframe. In 1970, he returned to Colorado and resided in Denver, CO where he worked at Rocky Flats and EG&G before retiring in 1996. Ernest loved to travel, camp, and visit places where he could go fishing. Visiting family from time to time and always building something with electronics, power and woodworking. He passed away of natural causes on November 15, 2023. He was 93 years old.
Ernest leaves to cherish his loving memories: wife Tuyet M. DeVan, son LaVern DeVan, son Troy R. DeVan Sr., son Zane M. DeVan, son LeJon M. DeVan, grandson Isaiah DeVan, grandson Troy DeVan Jr., granddaughter Ashlee DeVan, granddaughter Reyna DeVan, sister Lena B. Hill and a host of relatives, cousins and friend to include the families of DeVans, Bates, Bells, Biffles, Blacks, Bostons, Brookses, Brookshaws Colemans, Davises, Evanses, Gholstons, Hawkins, Hills, Hobsons, Hoods, Jacksons, Lovejoys, Mackinses, Millerses, Mooress, Morrises, Murrells, Owenses, Smiths, Solomons, Washington, Watkins and Woods.
