Ernest Grimes Obituary

Ernest Eugene "Gene" Grimes, 75, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at his home.

He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on January 3, 1950, the son of the late Ernest Monroe and Lena Essie (Parrett) Grimes. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Shirley Jean Grimes, sister, Inez Mae Robinson, a brother, Thomas Monroe Grimes, a brother-in-law, Frederick Douglas Crisp, and sister-in-law, Shirley Grimes.

On December 8, 1973, he married Debra Kay (Aubrey) Grimes and she preceded him in death in 2007.

He is survived by his siblings, Brenda Kay (Bobby) Spears of Kentucky, Rebecca "Becky" Sue (Chad Michael) Harris of Kenton, Marjorie Marie Crisp of North Dakota, Leda (James Richard) Irene Newberry of Tennessee, Larry Wayne Grimes of West Liberty, Richard Allen (Karen Diane) Grimes of Bellefontaine, Robert Wesley (Roben Renae) Grimes of Bellefontaine, James Lee Grimes of Bellefontaine, his brother-in-law, William "Willy" (Sandra) James of Piqua, OH, special friends, Charlie Dalrymple and Sharon Burton, both of Bellefontaine, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Gene worked as a farmhand on the Johnson Farm as a young man and then went to work for the City of Bellefontaine, where he worked with the cemetery department. In all, he spent 43 years with the City of Bellefontaine. He also worked as an industrial cleaner and in landscaping. He enjoyed going out to eat and being outdoors.

Friends and family may call on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4 to 6pm at the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. There will be no formal service. Burial will be private in Bellefontaine and Ridgeway Cemeteries.
